World Caring Day:

World Caring Day on June 7 is an opportunity for everyone to practice caring, which is needed now more than ever. An initiative of the nonprofit organization Caring Bridge, the day encourages everyone to appreciate those who care, and to care for them just as much. By sincerely asking how someone’s day went, it shows that you care, and can improve that person’s overall well-being. And in today’s competitive world, having someone who genuinely cares.

World Caring Day was inspired by an event in 1997, with the nine-day life of a baby named Brighid. Born prematurely, the first Caring Bridge website was created on June 7, 1997, after software engineer Sona Mehring realized that there should be a better way to keep friends and family updated on the baby’s health. With friends and family able to coordinate online, it allowed them to provide necessities and comfort to Brighid and her family.

This simple act of caring triggered a domino effect, resulting in a global network called Caring Bridge, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting family and friends with their loved ones during a health journey and helping them to provide care, comfort, and unwavering support.

In 2021, an estimated 45 million people from all around the world visited Caring Bridge, with 1,900 messages of hope, care, and love posted every hour on the Caring Bridge portals for loved ones.

The Dissolution of Union between Norway and Sweden:

The Dissolution of Union between Norway and Sweden is observed yearly on June 7. As the name implies, the day commemorates the separation of Norway and Sweden as unified kingdoms under a common monarch and common foreign policy. Norway’s parliament, the Storting, moved the motion for the dissolution. This resulted in Norway receiving what they’ve always wanted, which was to govern themselves after years of being subject to Sweden’s Foreign policies following the aftermath of a war between both nations. The day is one of remembrance of this achievement in their history and seeks to remind every Norwegian living locally

Sweden and Norway engaged in a brief war, which ended in 1814, with the Swedes emerging as victors. After losing the war, Norway was forced into a union with Sweden. The Swedes gave Norway a sense of independence by allowing them to maintain their parliament, their army, and their judiciary. They, however, had to submit to the monarch in Sweden and had a single foreign policy that was run by the Swedish Ministry of Affairs.

With a forced union comes differences, and it showed in the union of Sweden and Norway. Norway’s economy was more dependent on trading and so they preferred lower tariffs, while Sweden wished to have higher duties. On the international front, Norway had stronger ties with England and some other countries outside Europe, while Sweden’s relations were focused on Germany. Politically, Norway gradually became more liberal, thereby limiting the powers of the king, while it wasn’t the case in Sweden.

Due to all these disparities, the Norwegian parliament moved for the separation of Norway from Sweden by passing a law. King Oscar II refused to accept the new law and in response, the Norwegian government resigned. As King Oscar II couldn’t form an alternative government, the Norwegian government moved for the dissolution of the union with Sweden under one king. The king of Norway moved for the Norwegian people to vote on the dissolution, which they had anticipated and prepared for, by scheduling a plebiscite. The dissolution was passed in 1905 as a result of 99.95% of the vote being in favor of it

The day shows us what can be achieved by being courageous. This is inspirational to others. It gives people a chance to learn about the rich history of Sweden and Norway. The day entices people to want to know more about both nations by visiting them. This helps boost their economies through tourism.

June Bug Day:

June Bug Day is rightly observed on June 7. June bugs, a part of the Phyllophaga genus, are most visible this month. They spring up from the ground, searching for food and a mate at this time of year. They spend up to three years in the ground as larvae. Adults are about an inch or shorter, with a hard brown or black casing and wings. They hide in trees during the day, but at dusk, they swarm and are attracted to light. It is also when they are actively feeding on trees and bushes.

June bugs are a type of beetle, and they exist in quite a wide variety. The word ‘June bug’ refers to any of about 100 species of beetles in the family of scarabs. They are of the genus Phyllophaga and the order of Coleoptera. Another common name for the June bug is either ‘June beetle’ or ‘May beetle.’ The common June bug measures between one-half and five-eighths of an inch, and its color is reddish-brown. As with every other beetle, it also has shiny wing covers, which are called ‘elytra.’ June bugs can cause damage to gardens, lawns, and pastures, but can generally be controlled with prescribed pesticides.

June bugs are regarded as chafers, because they feed on vegetation, particularly leaves.

The diet of a June bug can further comprise grass, flowers, fruit, and food crops such as grains. They are also known to consume decaying organic material as part of their diet. It is this leaf-eating characteristic that is responsible for their scientific name ‘Phyllophaga,’ which is the Greek expression for ‘leaf eater.’ June bugs are nocturnal, meaning that they are typically most active after nightfall and before dawn.

They usually feed from dusk through the evening, to avoid predators. June bugs are so-called because their adults emerge from the soil at the end of spring or the beginning of the summer, which is in June.

The females bury their eggs just below the surface of the soil. June bug larvae typically hatch within three to four weeks and then feed on grass and plant roots from their formative months and for as long as three years. In spring and early summer, the larvae grow into pupae and mature into adults in a space of three weeks.

Adult June bugs are generally harmless. But their attraction to light makes them a nuisance to humans. Even light from inside the home can attract June bugs in large numbers.

The sound of June bugs bumping and buzzing against window screens is closely associated with summer in many parts of the United States. Scientists and researchers are yet to come up with an explanation for this particular behavior, and although several hypotheses have been advanced, no single theory can account for any reason for which different nocturnal insect species gravitate toward sources of illumination.

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day:

Here’s a little-known chocolate morse facts for National Chocolate Ice Cream Day — chocolate ice cream was actually invented before vanilla. You heard right — the earliest ice cream flavors were modeled after drinks, so chocolate naturally came before vanilla because hot chocolate was very popular in 17th-century Europe.

In fact, the first frozen chocolate recipe was published in 1692 Naples in the book “The Modern Steward,” and much later chocolate ice cream found its way to the U.S. This day falls on June 7 to help us channel our inner WillyWonka and pay tribute to this decadently frosty treat.

If you find yourself hoping for an old-time experience to celebrate National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, head on over to your local ice cream parlor or diner and order a milkshake or sundae. Whatever chocolate flavor you desire, a day at the parlor will be a sweet time when you're transported 60 years into the past.

The best way to make your ice cream double the chocolate goodness is to cover it with chunks of your favorite candy bar or douse it in chocolate sauce. Double the chocolate and have the fun

After a long day at work, nothing is better than a drink or a bowl of ice cream to take the edge off a stressful day. We say, why not have both? A boozy chocolate cocktail will leave both drinkers and chocolate lovers satisfied — nothing beats a chocolate buzz.

Think back to chasing down the ice cream truck or standing on you tip toes to pick out your favorite chocolate scoop at the ice cream counter. Chocolate ice cream brings back that childlike nostalgia with its classic and simple taste.

National VCR Day:

We take a trip down memory lane by celebrating National VCR Day on June 7. Though thousands of movies are available today on platforms like Netflix, there was a time when simply watching a film was a special occasion. This included purchasing or renting a VHS tape from the video store — and no, these were not available at a cheap cost. Since a lot of thought and effort went into viewing a flick. Sigh, don’t you just miss those times of novelty viewing? Fret not, now is the perfect opportunity to relive the past.

The video cassette recorder (VCR) is one of the most famous innovations in the history of technology. This is because there was a time when nearly every household in the U.S. owned a VCR. The first device was created by Norikazu Sawazaki in 1953, but the technology didn’t hit the market till 1956. In 1970, the innovation was launched for home use.

It is during this time that the VCR wars started. The competitors that introduced two different formats included the Sony Betamax and VHS by JVC. In the end, VHS came out on top and, by 1987, .JVC had 90% of the $5.25 billion VCR market in the U.S. Once made available for the public, the device transformed several industries, including the world of cinema. It also birthed numerous VHS and video rental stores, adding to an increase in local businesses.

This marvel of technology had several uses such as playing movies/videos, as well as recording shows and events that were aired on TV. At a point in time when the internet did not exist, recording television shows to later replay them was a joy for many. Though the act of recording shows raised some concerns regarding copyright issues initially, the perception changed when the Supreme Court ruled home recording of TV programs ‘fair’ in 1984.

This ruling allowed millions of people across the country to make their own collections of movies and TV shows.

To acknowledge the impact VCRs had on the world.. National VCR Day is celebrated every year. “Dedicate the day to watching some home videos on a VCR”. Not only will this serve as a reminder of the innovation that was once a big part of our lives but it will also bring back some great family memories.

If you still own a VCR, take it out of the attic and have a VHS movie marathon.. You can also search for stores that may still have VHS films they are willing to rent.

National Tailors Day:

National Tailors Day is celebrated each year on the first Wednesday of June — this year it falls on June 2. The tailoring industries of many countries have played an important role in the country’s economic progress. This day celebrates those specialists who create, modify, or restore old clothes so that they can fit their individual customers perfectly. We, as customers, should show our gratitude towards tailors on this day.

National Tailors Day is accepted and celebrated on the first Wednesday in June. This day was the birthday of the brilliant creator Elias Howe, who invented the sewing machine. As he himself worked in a weaving factory, he was used to the long working hours of textile workers. He decided to ease the laborer’s work pressure and also increase the factory’s productivity. That’s why he invented the sewing machine in 1845. His creation is referred to as one of the most important industrial inventions ever made in the history of mankind.

The lock stitch loop technique was only possible using the first model of the sewing machine. “Elias Howe”went on to become a millionaire due to this invention. However he lived a short life and passed away at the age of 47.

Only after this invention did sewing and tailoring become one of the primary professions of the world. Soon afterward textile workers became eager to use the sewing machine as it simplified their work and reduced their stress, at the same time increasing their productivity

His invention was widely used at that time as every clothing factory or tailor shop had no better option to increase efficiency. Since then, the sewing machine has been widely used by tailoring industries all over the world get your own tailored outfit.

The profession of a local tailor has somewhat reduced due to the popularity of commercial clothing. On this day, you can go to your local tailor who always fixes or alters your clothes and thank them for the work they’re doing.

National Tailors Day allows us to pay tribute to the profession of tailoring. You can go out and learn some basic tailoring techniques or express your gratitude to your local tailor who has been fixing your clothes.

World Food Safety Day:

World Food Safety Day, observed annually on June 7, we are protecting our food at all costs. This day was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of food etiquette and safety at all stages of the food chain. Before our food gets to our stores, restaurants, and even our mouths, they go through a long chain of distribution managed by people who handle processes like harvesting, processing, storing, distribution and preparation. This is why this holiday is important because in the long chain of food consumption there are several possibilities of food contamination.

Food poisoning is a more common condition than you would imagine, with an estimated 600 million foodborne illnesses recorded annually. Food safety is, therefore, a very important concept as it seeks to ensure our food is handled with utmost care before getting to us. Safe food is a key factor in determining our overall health because whatever we ingest is digested and spread easily to other parts of our body via our bloodstream. Food poisoning is one of the most common conditions caused by food-borne pathogens, and symptoms may include vomiting, aches, and diarrhea.

The good news is, that food poisoning is 100% preventable through the use of food safety mechanisms. These are the techniques used in ensuring our food remains in the best, healthiest shape until we consume them, and includes labeling, hygiene, additives, and preservatives. This, however, is not the easiest thing to achieve due to the number of people involved in the food distribution chain.

Food regulation organizations and agencies make the flow of food safety measures easier to manage and control by setting laws in place. Bodies like the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (F.A.O.), and the Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.) were established to govern food safety processes and laws. Although these organizations do their best to ensure our food stays safe, this massive task requires all our attention. The way we handle, process, and distribute food goes a long way toward ensuring safer food and better health worldwide. World Food Safety Day was established by the United Nations to raise awareness of food safety measures and is facilitated by WHO and F.A.O.

The quickest way to ensure everyone knows the importance of food safety is by actively talking about it. So all through today, use your social media platforms to raise awareness of the importance of taking food safety seriously by using the hashtag #WorldFoodSafetyDay to spread the word. It’s important to use all the tools at our disposal to educate people on the benefits of protecting our food within the food distribution chain.

On this day, and all through the year, the U.N. organizes various events centered on food safety measures. They do this in partnership with their subsidiaries like WHO and F.A.O., and other concerned organizations. Visit their website to see a list of possible events and plan to attend at least one that is closest to you
