Hot
Air Balloon Day :
The hot air balloon is the oldest form of flight
technology used for carrying humans, following the first manned flight in 1783.
The balloon itself consists of an envelope, which is used to contain the hot
air, and a gondola, where passengers and a means of creating hot air are
typically housed
Hot air balloons are the oldest form of technology for
carrying humans, and so they definitely deserve to be celebrated. This day is
simply about paying honor to this mode of transport, and to raise awareness
about the history of transport. A hot air balloon is an aircraft that
weighs less than air, which consists of a bag that has heated air inside. This
bag is known as an envelope. Suspended underneath the envelope is a wicker
basket or gondola that carries a source of heat and passengers.
The air balloon flight occurred on the 19th of September
in 1783. This is when two French brothers, Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier and
Joseph-Michel Montgolfier developed a hot air balloon in France’s Annonay area.
It was demonstrated to the public, making a flight that lasted for 10 minutes.
After flights with animals and unmanned balloons had been experimented with,
the first hot air balloon flight with humans on it occurred a month later, on
the 15th of October, in 1783. Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier was the first
person to take a hot air balloon flight.
The second human ascended into the air later that day;
Pilatre de Rozier. It only took a few weeks for hot air balloon rides to then
become a possibility for human passengers. It was originally decreed by King
Louis XVI that condemned criminals would be the original pilots for hot air
balloons. However, Marquis François d’Arlandes and de Rozier were successful in
their petition for the honor. In 1794, the first use of hot air balloons in the
military occurred. This was during the battle of Fleurus whereby the first use
of a hot air balloon happened for observation purposes.
After all, most of the hot air balloons we see in the sky
today are bright and colorful, so this is the perfect opportunity to have some
fun with paints, glitter, and such like! Things may get a bit messy, but that’s
half the fun.
World
Environment Day :
Because of the significance of these issues, the United
Nations created World Environment Day to help educate people about the
consequences of human activity. World Environment Day is a holiday all about
teaching people about environmental issues, giving people the opportunity to
change the habits they have that are affecting the environment and work towards
change.
The day has been held for many years now, with the first
World Environment Day occurring in 1974. It has been a flagship campaign for
raising awareness on different environmental problems and issues that are
emerging because of wildlife crime, global warming, human overpopulation,
marine pollution, and other problems. On this day, we are encouraged to learn
more about these issues and how we can protect the environment, as well as
encouraging others to broaden their knowledge as well.
On this day, people register for activities sponsored by
the holiday and take part in humanitarian and environmental activities, such as
helping third-world countries, planting trees to regrow forests, cleaning up
beaches and side road
National Burger Day :
Veggie Burgers have been advancing into the hearts of individuals for over 50 years. As an option in contrast to burgers produced using meat, veggie burgers are commonly better for the body as well as being naturally good for the planet.
The origins of the veggie burger don’t really date back that far. But the history of the veggie burger can’t really be told without noting the beginnings of its muse, the hamburger. The hamburger was born in the United States around the late 19th century and gained popularity in the 20th century due to its affordability as well as the emergence of the working class.
Since National Veggie Burger Day happens in the
summertime for those in the northern hemisphere, it makes sense to invite over
some friends and neighbors for a barbecue. But, instead of throwing a pile of
meat on the grill, choose to make it a plant based celebration by putting some
veggie burgers on. Plus, add some buttered buns, side dishes such as coleslaw
or fries and enjoy a delicious meal
National Candy Month:
Sweets
for the sweet! National Candy Month was established especially for those who
have an avid sweet tooth and are looking for an easy excuse to get busy buying,
making and eating all of the candy they want during this month!
National Candy Month was first celebrated in 1974 and
since then it has been an important part of the calendar for those sweets
lovers. No one seems entirely sure why or how June became National Candy
Month but, when the title gives you license to enjoy as much guilt-free candy
as you like*, who cares?! That’s not to say June is without relevant history:
it was in June 1963 that US confectioner Hershey’s acquired Harry Burnett
Reese’s business (yes, the original Reese of Peanut Butter Cup fame) and going
back even further, it was in June 1904 that George Cadbury and his staff
invented Dairy Milk in the UK.
Though candy making can be a complicated endeavor, this
is a great time to perhaps try out some of those culinary skills in the
kitchen! Perhaps start with something less complicated such as chocolate
covered pecan caramel turtles or some simple peanut butter fudge.
Those who feel more adventurous for National Candy Month
might be interested in trying to make something on a higher skill level, such
as salt water taffy, peanut brittle or Grandma’s divinity candy. Whatever kind
of candy making adventures are had in the kitchen, be sure to share the spoils
with friends, family or coworkers and remind them that it’s the month to
celebrate all sweet things!
